About Tapestry
Tapestry is Alphabet’s moonshot for the electric grid, working at the frontier where energy’s complexity meets AI’s potential. We were born at X, the innovation lab responsible for breakthrough technologies like Waymo, Verily and Google Brain.
To keep pace with humanity’s growing energy needs, the world needs a grid that is visible and understandable. We provide that clarity by building advanced, AI-enabled analytical and planning tools that allow the entire energy ecosystem to plan smarter, move faster, and operate more efficiently—ensuring electricity remains reliable and affordable for everyone.
This is a global effort. Tapestry is proud to support partners in the U.S., U.K., Chile, New Zealand, Australia and Brazil as they build a cleaner, more resilient energy future. Joining Tapestry allows you to do the best work of your life as part of a multidisciplinary team of experts in AI, energy systems, software engineering and product design—all collaborating to reshape energy on a global scale. If you want to tackle problems that matter and build tools with real impact, we would love to meet you. Learn more about our team and our mission here.
About the role: Building an Agent-Native Computational Platform
As the Product Manager for Computations, you will lead the vision for a next-gen computational platform designed to orchestrate massive-scale grid workloads. You will drive a paradigm shift toward a generalized framework that supports simulations, optimizations, and other costly asynchronous computations. You are expected to act as an incubator for next-generation computational technologies, identifying and scaling innovations that redefine industry benchmarks. Your mission is to build a unified, self-healing platform that empowers both power users and AI agents to solve the industry's most difficult problems by providing a robust, horizontally scalable infrastructure that abstracts complexity and maximizes reliability.
Responsibilities
- Innovation Incubation & Launch: Lead the end-to-end lifecycle of breakthrough computational engines, such as T-Sim (GPU-native EMT solver) and GDM Kanos. Partner with Research and Engineering to transform high-potential experiments into production-ready platform features that deliver massive performance gains (e.g., 1000x speedups) for grid-scale simulations and optimizations.
- Generalized Platform Strategy: Architect the vision for a unified Computation Services platform that goes beyond simulations to run optimizations and experiments. Define a strategy based on the clear separation of management, control, and data planes to enable independent scaling and high availability across the ecosystem.
- Robust Orchestration: Design self-healing systems required to run massive-scale computations and batch jobs in parallel. Ensure the platform remains highly reliable with minimal human involvement through automated monitoring, alerting, and horizontal scalability.
- Agent-Native Interfaces: Design multimodal interfaces that allow AI agents and power users to invoke algorithms and parse simulation results seamlessly through API-first protocols.
- Self-Service Extensibility: Enable low-friction, repeatable integration for tenants. Build the tools and standardized specs that allow developers to package Docker images and define computation requirements without the platform team becoming a bottleneck.
- Standardized Interfaces & Libraries: Define standardized input/output schemas and develop client libraries to abstract inter-process communication, simplifying the integration experience for both human developers and LLM agents.
Durable Decision Making: Lead complex architectural trade-offs, balancing immediate application pressure against long-term platform stability.
Who You Are:
- An experienced product manager with ML software experience
- Comfortable navigating ambiguity and building products from zero to one in a fast-paced environment.
- Deeply customer-oriented you are committed to delivering tools that not only meet functional requirements but also bring clarity, delight, and value to users and stakeholders alike
- Experienced in cross-disciplinary collaboration across software, AI/ML, and domain experts.
- Passionate about the value digital technologies can provide to the grid
- A strong communicator who can represent the product to both internal and external audiences.
- Ideally, you have startup or small-team experience and thrive in high-ownership environments.
What you should have:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science.
- 5+ years of product management experience.
- Proven success building and shipping software products
- Proven experience and technical fluency in defining, building, and scaling platforms that support advanced AI/ML model training, deployment (MLOps), and feature management.
