2025 PhD Resident Microdevice Process Development, Early Stage Project

How you will make 10x impact:
- Collaborate across multiple X projects and work in a cutting edge R&D environment, integrating Materials and Physical Sciences R&D, Device Physics and AI / ML
- Rapidly develop process flows for traditional semiconductor processing equipment that translate to the creation of novel materials and devices.
- Bridge the gap between materials and devices and work to develop new ways to measure physical and chemical phenomena.
This project aims to push the limits of science and modeling as we know them and to prove how ML can radically accelerate our understanding of the world
- Location: X's headquarters in Mountain View, CA
- Start Date(s): Year-round rolling basis
- Duration: a flexible 4 mo. to 1 year program based on project team needs and your availability
Throughout your AI Residency you can expect:
- Work in one of our R&D labs, interfacing with multiple X projects from early stage investigations to mature projects.
- Perform work that is vital to the success of numerous projects
- Work with a broad range of scientists, engineers, project leads, technicians and more
- Develop Standard operating procedures and recipes for a suite of equipment.
- To be embedded into one of our confidential or public X projects

What you should have:
- You must be currently enrolled in a PhD program in Materials Science, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Chemistry or similar.
- Hands on experience working in a microfabrication laboratory
- Experience developing process recipes for microfabrication equipment
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively present complex technical concepts and findings.
- Strong analytical skills and experience in characterization techniques including Scanning Electron Microscopy, Ellipsometry, Confocal Microscopy, EDS, XRD and similar
- Experience with electrical characterization of microdevices
It’d be great if you also had these:
- An ability to thrive on ambiguity, setting own goals and effectively delivering them in a fast-changing environment
- Experience programming in Python
- Thin film growth and analysis experience.
- Experience working with cryogens

The US base salary range for this position is $109,000 - $150,000 + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your location during the hiring process.
