Future MoonshotsMountain View, CA (HQ)
The Company:
X is Alphabet’s moonshot factory with a mission of inventing and launching “moonshot” technologies that could someday make the world a radically better place. We are a diverse group of inventors and entrepreneurs who build and launch technologies that aim to improve the lives of millions, even billions, of people. Our goal: 10x impact on the world’s most intractable problems, not just 10% improvement. We approach projects that have the aspiration and riskiness of research with the speed and ambition of a startup. As an innovation engine, X focuses on repeatedly turning breakthrough-technology ideas into the foundations for large, sustainable businesses.
The Role:
In this role, you will work closely with our early stage teams to understand the capabilities and limitations of breakthrough technologies, identify opportunities for artistic applications, and push the boundaries of current moonshot developments.

- Inspire & Translate: Act as a creative conduit between our technical teams and the broader world. Bring your own novel and idiosyncratic approach to solving problems and launching moonshots through a creative lens
- Research & Experiment: Conduct independent research into emerging artistic practices and technologies, bringing fresh perspectives and new methodologies to our R&D process.
- Document & Share: Document your creative process, findings, and project outcomes; contributing to our internal knowledge base and inspiring future interdisciplinary work.
- Ideate & Prototype: Rapidly prototype experiments at the intersection of technology and the arts
What you should have:
- Education/Experience: MFA or Masters in Design, or equivalent experience
- Proven track record of developing innovative artistic projects with a strong technological component that captivate and challenge audiences.
- Technologically Proficient: You possess a strong understanding of, and hands-on experience with, various creative coding platforms, digital fabrication techniques, sensor technologies, interactive media, and/or immersive environments
- Interdisciplinary Thinker: You are comfortable navigating complex technical concepts and translating them into accessible and engaging creative outputs. You speak the language of both art and technology.
- Prototyping Aficionado: You are adept at rapid prototyping and iterating on ideas, comfortable with experimentation and learning new tools quickly.
- Excellent Communicator: You can articulate complex ideas clearly, both visually and verbally, and collaborate effectively with diverse teams.
- Self-Directed & Curious: You are highly motivated, able to manage your own projects, and possess an insatiable curiosity for emerging technologies and their creative applications.
- Portfolio Powerhouse: You have a compelling online portfolio or body of work that showcases your creative vision, technical skills, and completed projects.
It’d be great if you also had these:
- Experience with specific deep tech areas relevant to our company (e.g., quantum computing, synthetic biology, advanced robotics, neuro-tech, etc).
