About the role

As the Head of Engineering, you will be a key player in defining and executing the technical strategy that supports Tapestry's mission. You will be responsible for scaling the engineering capabilities, fostering a culture of innovation, excellence, and inclusiveness, and ensuring the robust delivery of our AI-powered grid solutions. This position offers a unique chance to directly impact the global transition to clean energy.

How you’ll make 10x impact:

  • Strategic Technical Vision: Define and champion the long-term technical architecture and roadmap for Tapestry's unified grid model and AI-powered tools. This includes building for scale, reliability, and security in a mission-critical enterprise environment.

  • Organizational Scaling & Leadership: Recruit, mentor, and empower a diverse team of highly skilled engineers and engineering managers. You will cultivate a culture of technical excellence and scale the engineering organization in line with Tapestry's growth. You’re an exceptional mentor, experienced in developing high-potential engineering leaders, and a magnet for attracting new talent.

  • Product & Platform Delivery: Oversee the end-to-end development lifecycle of core products and infrastructure. Ensure the delivery of scalable, reliable, secure, and performant solutions that meet the complex demands of a transforming electricity network

  • Innovation & Research Integration: Drive a culture of applied research and experimentation, integrating cutting-edge AI/ML advancements and industry best practices into product development.

  • Cross-Functional & External Partnership: Collaborate with product, research, business development, and operations teams to translate strategic objectives into engineering initiatives. Engage externally with customers, key opinion formers and energy industry executives to align engineering efforts with industry needs.

  • Safety & Reliability Stewardship: Champion rigorous engineering practices, quality assurance, and security protocols to ensure the integrity, safety, and operational resilience of our critical grid infrastructure solutions.

What you should have:

  • Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

  • 15+ years of progressive experience leading and managing large-scale engineering organizations, including managing managers and senior individual contributors. This experience should include a track record of scaling teams in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment.

  • 10+ years of hands-on experience in software engineering, with a strong background in building complex, distributed systems, high-performance computing, or AI/ML platforms.

  • Demonstrated expertise in architectural design and technical strategy for mission-critical systems.

  • Proven track record of shipping highly impactful products and platforms.

  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder management skills.

  • Strategic thinking with a bias for action and an ability to navigate ambiguous and rapidly evolving environments.

  • A profound passion for decarbonizing the electric grid and a deep commitment to Tapestry's mission.

It’d be great if you had these:

  • Experience in the energy sector, electric utilities, or grid technology.

  • Familiarity with power systems modeling, control systems, or energy market operations.

  • Experience with AI/ML model deployment and MLOps at scale.

  • A track record of public speaking, technical writing, or active participation in relevant industry forums.

  • Experience in a fast-paced startup or "moonshot" environment.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $349,000 - $524,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
