About the role:

X is Alphabet’s moonshot factory where uncomfortably ambitious and world-changing new ideas are developed and taken out into the world. X projects have the potential to transform the lives of billions of people and make the world a radically better place. For X to be successful, we have to repeatedly turn breakthrough technology ideas into products that solve large problems in the world, and create meaningful businesses for Alphabet.

In this role, you will wear multiple hats, and will be responsible for various finance and analytical initiatives. You will work closely with the project’s Head of Growth Operations and General Manager on planning, forecasting and reporting in addition to scaling our financial systems.  You will also help teams evaluate new technology, conduct risk assessments and risk management value propositions, estimate market sizes, build economic models, and report results to X leadership. You will partner with X leadership and across other finance teams to drive investment decisions and ongoing operations. You will be leading the planning, reporting, and analysis needs for Tapestry, as well as special projects for work with Alphabet and the external world. You are enthusiastic and a self-starter, wanting to design new and enhance existing processes; scoping, designing, and implementing new and scalable processes to support growth.

 

How you’ll make 10X impact:

  • Build and manage Tapestry’s financial plans, forecasts, and reports. 
  • Lead critical analysis to evaluate Tapestry performance  and guide capital allocation, financial efficiency, and longer-term financial strategy.
  • Support strategic analysis efforts and quantitative evaluations for various efforts, such as carbon emission metrics or product pricing evaluation. 
  • Support market sizing, competitive and regulatory analyses, and value chain mapping for Tapestry’s products
  • Review economic models in partnership with product managers and leadership
  • Present findings to project lead and X executives to guide strategy
  • Work cross-functionally to scale Tapestry systems including planning, forecasting, reporting, decision-making, accounting, and financial operations
  • Work cross-functionally to de-risk other non-technical aspects of the project, partnering with Business Innovation, Legal, Policy, Privacy, Marketing/PR, Operations, etc.

 

What you should have:

  • BA/BS degree in finance, economics, business, accounting, or technical field, or equivalent practical experience. 
  • 4 years of relevant experience in accounting, corporate finance, corporate development, venture capital, management consulting, FP&A, investment banking, or similar environment, including project management experience.
  • Experience in communication of business and quantitative analysis. Ability to translate ‘from spreadsheet to slidedeck’ to suit financial stakeholders as well as executive briefing stakeholders.

  • Thrive on ambiguity, setting own goals and effectively delivering to them in a very fast-changing environment
  • Ability to build business models from the ground up, based on independently sourced research
  • Experience building and scaling accounting and finance operations
  • Ability to influence without authority, working with technical and cross-functional teams who do not report into this role to get things done
  • Distinctive problem solving and analysis skills, combined with impeccable business judgment, leadership skills, and ability to communicate with a senior management team
  • Attention to detail, project management, and organizational skills
  • Fast learner with capacity to learn about a wide spread of different technologies & industries
  • Passion for the energy and climate space

 

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $124,000 - $173,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
