About the team:

Tapestry, is X’s moonshot for the electric grid.  We are a team of software engineers, power systems experts and clean energy geeks  who are  impatient to tackle climate change head on through our energy system. The electric power grid, in particular, is a focus as it is currently responsible for a quarter of global carbon emissions.  Tapestry is on a mission to make the world’s electric grid visible so everyone, everywhere can access clean, affordable and  reliable energy. We are working with partners around the world to create AI powered  tools that will help everyone who works with the grid build and manage a carbon-free and secure electricity system.

Currently incubating at X, Alphabet’s innovation lab, we are now building the team that will scale Tapestry for more global impact. The role 

This is an opportunity to be a foundational member of the product team for an early stage product innovating quickly at the intersection of science and engineering. We are working to push the boundaries of what is possible in a rapidly evolving field. As part of a small and growing product team, you will get to define the roadmap. You’ll need to identify the opportunities and help create the products that transform this space.

In this role, you will:

  • Apply product management best practices to creatively solve complex, ambiguous, and novel problems.
  • Work collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary engineering and machine learning team, operating as a connecting point between software & power system engineering, operations, partnerships and business.
  • Develop a highly ambitious yet practical strategy for pushing the boundaries of what's possible today while foreseeing future needs and opportunities
  • Define product requirements with highly-engaged strategic innovation partners 
  • Define and communicate user / business value
  • Develop empathy for highly technical power systems experts and delight them with cutting-edge innovation
  • “Roll up your sleeves” and get stuff done as an independent self driven product manager with stage appropriate product management rigor and hygiene
  • Apply data driven approaches where possible for driving clarity on prioritization, scoping and measuring impact of product capabilities and roadmap

 

What you should have:

We’re looking for an experienced product manager with demonstrated talent for strategy, creativity, and execution. Experience bridging software engineering with hardware, sciences, robotics, or other domains is a plus. Our ideal candidate has experience in fast-paced, innovative environments.

  • Bachelor's degree in science, engineering or related field
  • Startup experience, or equivalent experience on early stage teams
  • 8+ years of product management experience. 
  • Strong knowledge of building innovative products in close collaboration with high touch enterprise customers along with experience of dealing with ambiguous requirements 
  • Strong technical knowledge and foundation in AI/ML and SaaS capabilities and prior experience in productizing prototypes and innovation partnerships
  • Experience in power systems or energy grid knowledge is required for the role.

 

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $142,000 - $170,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
