The Team:
X’s central machine learning team is looking for Research Scientists motivated by a desire to make a difference in the world, and apply their expertise to different X teams for domain specific problems. Research Scientists at X work closely with Hardware and Software Engineers to discover, invent, solve and prototype. From devising experiments and prototyping implementations to designing new algorithms, X’s Research Scientists work on applying artificial intelligence and machine learning on critically important problems.
How you will make 10x impact:
- Participate in cutting edge research in artificial intelligence and machine learning applications, especially with respect to problems in computational chemistry and material science.
- Develop ML/AI solutions for real world problems.
- Develop ML/AI solutions for prototype sensors and hardware.
- Provide research input on X early explorations: determine the scope of the problem, the best use of ML, and the merits of different approaches.
- Provide guidance on data needs (size, type, variability).
- Integrating latest research into applied projects.
- Collaborate with Software and Hardware Engineers to design and run experiments.
- Designing new and critically evaluate known algorithms.
- Be X’s link to the broader research and academic community and to Alphabet’s other research groups.
What you should have:
- PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
- 5 years experience in Computer Vision, Machine Learning, Optimization, Machine Intelligence (Artificial Intelligence) with at least two years of experience in applying these techniques in the areas of chemistry and materials science.
- Programming experience in one or more of the following: Python, C++
- Research contributions, including publishing papers in machine learning venues (e.g: NeurIPS, ICML, CVPR, ECCV, ICCV, JMLR, PAMI, ICLR, ACL, ICASSP)
It’d be great if you also had these:
- Relevant work experience (full time industry experience or researcher in academia)
- Strong publication record.
- Projects of interdisciplinary nature including deep knowledge of at least one physical science domain
- Experience with ML pipelines, experiments and system evaluation.
- Programming experience with TensorFlow or similar Machine Learning/Deep Learning frameworks.
- Ability to design and execute on research agenda.
- Ability to work in small teams, under ambiguity and with limited supervision.
