Project Taara’s mission is to provide abundant, affordable, fast internet access using beams of light (Wireless Optical Communications). As part of that mission, we are looking for someone to manage technical sales, post sale operations and bridge to the product teams in Mountain View, CA.  He/She will help accelerate adoption, retention, and expansion of our product, and is comfortable engaging with partners in the region ranging from CxOs to senior project managers, as well as across the team internally.  The Head of technical sales person is expected to understand the details, both technical and non-technical, to ensure customer satisfaction with our product, and to relay relevant feedback to the internal teams.

 

The Team

You will join an exciting team at X (formerly Google[x]) called Taara that is working to bridge the digital divide by providing access to fast, affordable internet across the world.  The team is entrepreneurial in nature and works fast and iteratively to unlock the technology and business potential towards enabling high speed connectivity at an affordable price. 

 

The Role

You will lead India and surrounding regions technical business, sales, partnerships and post sale operations for Project Taara.

 

How you will make an impact:

  • Manage relationships with our partners as the primary point of contact (your counterparts will often be C-level executives and leaders at world-leading companies)

  • Generate and manage a sales pipeline of prospective customers in target markets

  • Discern customer needs: identify and summarize specific problem areas for new and existing customers related to better understanding their connectivity needs; identify related technology gaps, and build a thesis for the most promising candidate technology solutions and product concepts

  • Contribute market feedback to a cross-functional team that will scale our current proof of concept into a commercial pilot and ultimately a suite of commercial products

  • Identify & evaluate new business, product & partnership opportunities

  • Collaborate with market evaluation teams that perform techno-economic analysis and feasibility analysis

  • Influence without authority, working with technical and cross-functional teams (who do not report into this role) to get things done

  • Drive day-to-day partner engagement, retention, escalations, and internal execution, operations including logistics and network operations across Africa 

  • Lead a regular cadence of cross-functional meetings to communicate plans, measure partner performance targets, and anticipate and mitigate risk.

  • Plan, schedule, and lead regular project progress reviews with each partner.  This will require a deep understanding of the project results, challenges, and path forward - and superior listening skills to understand product-market fit. 

 

What you should have:

  • BA/BS Degree (or equivalent professional experience)

  • 7 - 10  years of relevant experience (e.g. project management, product management, strategy or technology consulting, sales engineering)

  • Demonstrated ability to engage and influence senior executives

  • Willingness to travel both domestically and internationally (20%+)

  • Have demonstrated ability to take initiative, prioritize, and multi-task in ambiguous environments

 

It would be great if you also had these:

  • 3-4 years experience in management consulting

  • Experience working within the enterprise software industry

  • Strong interpersonal skills, communication both written and spoken, and results oriented

  • Experience iterating early-stage products and working in a fast-paced environment

  • Excellent analytical, quantitative reasoning, problem solving, creativity and strategic skills

  • Superior presentation skills - both written and verbal.  

  • Experience in working with global and cross-functional internal and external teams

  • Background working in telecommunication and / or understanding the internet service provider ecosystem
