Rapid Evaluation Resident (RER), Early Stage, X

Program Management

Mountain View, CA (HQ)

This is an 18-months program.

About the team:

X is Alphabet’s moonshot factory where uncomfortably ambitious, world-changing ideas are developed and taken out into the world. X projects have the potential to transform the lives of billions of people and make the world a radically better place. For X to be successful, we have to repeatedly turn breakthrough technology ideas into products that solve large problems in the world, and create meaningful businesses for Alphabet.

About the role:

Alongside other Rapid Eval Residents (RER)  and Xers, over the course of 18-months develop  breakthrough ideas that could become the next moonshot. We are seeking individuals of varying backgrounds, expertise, and experiences who are motivated to change the world for the better.

How you will make 10x impact:

  • Use a combination of critical thinking, networking, research, and prototyping to propose and assess hundreds of potential breakthrough technology-enabled projects.
  • Collaborate or join forces with another RER to develop a moonshot idea. Progressively de-risk the idea both from technical and business perspectives.
  • Develop and refine your moonshot story and pitch as your advancements are made.
  • Leverage resources at X including first-class prototyping facilities, proprietary tools, and expert collaborators in your pursuit.
  • Motivated by purpose and passion; you fall in love with problems, not solutions.
  • Embrace humility.

What you should have:

  • Completed BA/BS, Masters, and/or PhD  or equivalent practical experience. All levels of experience are considered.
  • Played a key role in the successful  development and launch of a tech product, in particular deep tech, while working in a startup environment. You are biased to action and will “roll up your sleeves”
  • You are both a capable individual contributor and collaborative, team-based player.

It’d be great if you also had these:

  • Thrive in ambiguity and able to manage your own work
  • Able to effectively communicate both technical and non-technical information to mixed audiences

About X, the moonshot factory

X creates radical new technologies to solve some of the world’s biggest problems. We develop uncomfortably ambitious, potentially world-changing new ideas such as self-driving cars, balloon-powered Internet and smart contact lenses. We’re a team of makers, entrepreneurs, engineers, designers and scientists with deep technical expertise who love the challenge of the seemingly impossible. We believe that a culture of psychological safety creates the foundation of trust and respect necessary to build moonshots. X was formerly known as Google[x] and is part of Alphabet.
