This team’s mission is to deliver high-throughput and long-range connectivity via free-space optical communication (FSOC) links.


This BD role is focused on supporting an X1 project, the FSOC (free-space optical communications) team. This project aims to provide high-quality low-cost connectivity to the estimated 3 billion people worldwide who are still unconnected. We have seen early success in India and are looking to scale our deployment operations and customer support in India, Africa and LATM.


This role will be based out of Mountain View, CA with frequent travel to India, Africa and LATM.

Job responsibilities

  • Structure inbound and outbound deals and lead negotiations. Structure complex, ambiguous contracts across multiple internal and external stakeholders.
  • Highly cross functional: Work with internal cross functional leads (Legal, Finance, Policy, Strategy)
  • Partner with X project leads / GM. Ideate and help refine product strategy, acting as a strategic advisor for project leads
  • Ability to work closely with higher levels of government and structure, follow through and execute deals
  • Assess partnership landscape. Create holistic maps/ partnership strategy across product areas
  • Manage multi-stakeholder interests. Establish internal buy-in for data-backed recommendations, influencing senior-level internal and external audiences

Preferred qualifications

  • Previous business development experience. You’ve directly negotiated early-stage deals (inbound and outbound), well versed in commercial and legal terms, and can thrive in undefined, ambiguous environments. Prior experience in structuring, early-stage (undefined product) monetization deals is a plus.
  • Entrepreneurship & Initiative. Create your own work-flows, pro-actively ask for input/ feedback, iterate; source contacts, negotiate for the team, and secure resources
  • Go-to-market, monetization frameworks, strategy, competitive analysis
  • Strategic thinking. Identify bottlenecks/ key problems in ambiguous and complex environments; Ideate efficient solution
  • Quick learner. Quickly understand a range of technologies and applications; Comfortable in ramping up on new industries and technologies in a fast manner
